“They’re called gabions – those kind of caged, stone rectangular structures, and those are put in place to lengthen the channel flow,” Ellis explained. “That’s how it improves water quality by reducing the suspended solids or the cloudy water – the chocolate milk that is so common when it rains heavy in Chattanooga.”
