Residents and businesses in Broussard who saw a spike in water usage as a result the winter storm will only have to pay half of the overage on their bill, according to The Advocate.
Broussard Mayor Ray Bourque proposed at the city council meeting earlier this week crediting about $5,000 to customers to ease the burden of expenses caused by broken water pipes during freezing temperatures.
The Advocate reports Council members unanimously agreed to allow the mayor to act under emergency authorization.
